
Nine potential cases of gastro at Launceston General Hospital were being investigated as of Wednesday afternoon, with the hospital's Infection Prevention Control Unit awaiting further test results.

It comes after rehabilitation ward 3R entered quarantine and closed to new admissions on Tuesday afternoon, as part of a precautionary move to control the transmission of viral gastroenteritis.
The ward remains closed and is being monitored daily, with at least 48 hours of no symptoms required before it will be able to be reopened.
Only essential staff are permitted to enter the ward.
On Tuesday eight suspected gastro cases had been reported.
