The hospital took the precaution on Tuesday afternoon in an effort to control the transmission of viral gastroenteritis.
There are currently eight suspected cases.
The rehabilitation ward 3R is in quarantine and is closed to new admissions.
Only essential staff are permitted to enter the ward.
LGH executive director of nursing Helen Bryan said it was unfortunate that the suspected outbreak would stop visitors to the ward.
However, she said it was important to contain the spread of the virus which puts already vulnerable patients at risk.
The situation was being managed by the hospital's Infection Prevention Control Unit.
