Two Northern Tasmanian teenagers are at the Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition following a motorcycle crash at Newnham last night.
The two teenage boys - aged 17 and 16 - were the rider and pillion passenger of an unregistered blue Yamaha trail bike that reportedly crash with a white Holden Colorado utility at the intersection of Thompsons Lane and Franmaree Road about 6pm last night.
Tasmania Police said the 17-year-old rider, of Mayfield, and 16-year-old pillion, of Newnham, were thrown from the bike and received significant injuries.
Police said initial investigation indicate that the crash occurred when the utility turned right from Tompsons Lane onto Franmaree Road, hitting the trail bike which was travelling east on Thompsons Lane.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Police said the unregistered Yamaha was not fitted with any lights and the riders were wearing dark clothing and no protective clothing.
Neither was wearing a helmet and the visibility of the Yamaha is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.
The driver of the utility, a Newnham man, 41, was uninjured and was taken to the LGH for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Police said investigations are ongoing and are calling on any witnesses or people with footage to call 131 444 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
