Described on North Melbourne's social media channels as having plenty to like in an otherwise grim afternoon, the 21-year-old brought up four new career highs while equaling his best goals output.
The Roos' second-best player in Sunday's 72-point Essendon loss, Thomas had 21 disposals, 13 of which were kicks, five clearances and nine inside 50s while also kicking two goals.
Speaking to North Media, the two-time North Launceston premiership player is enjoying his new-found midfield role.

"I feel like being in the midfield really helps me get in the game, and it makes me feel better and more involved," Thomas said.
"Starting inside helps me and my footy ... [rather than] going forward and then coming into the midfield ... I'm loving it at the moment.
"Having heaps more midfield time around 'Cunners' [Ben Cunnington] and all those boys ... the midfield group have really taken me under their wings.
"Playing in the midfield around Goldy [Todd Goldstein] is good ... [and] especially Jy [Simpkin] is helping me find my way in there."
Thomas' work hasn't gone unnoticed in the past few weeks, with coach and fellow Tasmanian David Noble speaking highly of his midfielder's work.
"I thought Tarryn continued in a really good vein of form with five clearances in the midfield," Noble said.
"It seems the more we've been able to get him in there, the relationship he builds with 'Cunners' and Jy (Simpkin) I think is really good."
Since being drafted with pick eight of the 2018 national draft, one in front of fellow Tasmanian Chayce Jones, Thomas has featured in the Kangaroos' side 36 times and has played all 10 matches this season.
