As a part of the state election, the Liberal party pledged a $750,000 boost to the project, which was described as "really important" by Tassie Tigers women's coach Luke Doerner.
HOCKEY UPGRADE HISTORY
"We've got a great sport and we do have great facilities and keeping them at the best level and improving them wherever possible is really important for our sport in relation to participation and then getting those higher-level games to places like Launceston," he said.
"It's really important that kids get to see that first-hand and hopefully with the upgrades we will be able to have Hockey One and international matches up here."
Men's coach Stephen McMullen saw 124-time Kookaburra Tim Deavin taking in an Australian Hockey League game as a junior and hopes today's youth can soon do the same with Hockey One.
"The ability to have good facilities that we can bring these games to will enable the next player to actually really commit to the work and effort that they need to do to make that and then play in front of their friends and family," he said.
