South Launceston win sixth Cricket North title in a row

The Ava Curtis-inspired victory made it six premierships in seven seasons, leading South to 5-162 before Launceston finished their 20 overs on 4-82.

The young star was named most valuable player of the final, making her first senior half-century with an unbeaten 52, bowling four overs for 14, taking a superb catch and topping it off with a last-ball run-out.

Yet all this didn't surprise co-captain Caitlyn Webster.

"We've known it's been coming, she's just been amazing," Webster said.

"She's coming through with the Raiders as well and we at South work really hard with the juniors - she's just got that natural talent.

"She's been stranded a few times in the 40s, so it's really nice for her to actually score that 50 she's been wanting."

Webster set the tone earlier in the innings, scoring 46 off 38 balls as she continued to lose partners at the other end.

She combined with Curtis to put on 36 for the fourth wicket before being bowled by Charlotte Layton, who was the pick of the bowlers with 2-18.

Curtis and Ellie Mathews (17 off 11) boosted the total to its eventual place before South made an impact in the first over.

Launceston batter Ianthe Boden thought she'd snuck one past Meg Radford at point but the recent Tasmanian Tigers squad member stretched out her hand before picking the ball up and rocketing it into Webster - dismissing captain Lynn Hendley for one.

Boden and Victoria Geale then set about the uphill battle of chasing the runs, putting on a classy 66-run partnership until Lisa Battle and Curtis combined to remove Boden for 34.

Geale departed for 35 in the following overs, sucking the life out of the chase and crowning South premiers.
