Inveresk's Blue Cafe is set to add a new covered pergola for outdoor dining, with a development application currently before the City of Launceston.
The proposal, designed by local firm S Group, would see the popular hospitality venue be able to offer outdoor, weather-proof dining.
The building is heritage listed, and restaurant owner Don Cameron said that while it presented some challenges, it was important to the business to retain its history.
"We've been really careful with just how we plan this so we can get not only what we want and what our customers need, but what will suit the heritage requirements of the building," Mr Cameron said.
"This building has quite a long history, and we'll do everything we can to protect the building and use it wisely."

Tying in the heritage aspects and tying in with the industrial developments in the area highlighted as key, with S Group designing the timber and steel structure that will be attached to the existing building.
"We've got a design that is really appealing, with the timber that will be joined with big bits of steel," Mr Cameron said.
"The roof will be polycarbonate and a smoky colour so it won't be too hot.
"We're going to have blinds that will go up and down like sister restaurant Mudbar, to allow us to bring the outside in and cope with the Tasmanian weather - this means we can cater for more people, even when we see four seasons in one day."
The development application is available for public comment on the council website until February 1.
