The Greater Northern Raiders all-rounder's latest match is a microcosm of this - Anthes claimed four wickets for 17 in Saturday's T20 bout against North Hobart.
Raiders captain Oliver Wood has been a keen observer of Anthes' growth as a player, having coached him in the Riverside's under-15 squad.
"He's probably always been more of a batsman and his bowling's been something he's worked at and contributed to the team at different times," Wood said.
"This year, his role's required more bowling than it has in the past ... for him to stand up on the weekend like he did was massive.
"If you have a look at his wickets and when he got them, that was pretty well the deciding factor in the game. It was brilliant."
Elsewhere in sport:
The 17-year-old has tallied only 124 runs this season, however he's collected 11 wickets while allowing an average of about 25 runs per wicket.
"He's always been a precociously talented young man," Wood said.
"Now, he's probably more so just becoming more mature, getting a better understanding of the game and his tactics are what have evolved more than anything."
Wood said he was eager to see Anthes continue to raise his ceiling with the Raiders.
"Cooper's a perfect example of why the Raiders is so critical for cricket up here [Northern Tasmania]," he said.
"The fact that he's got the opportunity to to be exposed to play premier league at his age - it just fast tracks his development.
"He's a really good example of what the Raiders stand for and how it will continue to benefit young, talented cricketers like Cooper in the future."
