Tasmanians are well known for their ability to dig deep and give to those who are less fortunate than themselves.
Here at The Examiner, we have seen that generosity in action more times than we can count - each year we run our twin appeals, the Winter Relief and Empty Stocking appeals respectively.
As a conduit for the appeals, we see each year how selfless Northern Tasmanians are when it counts.
This year has been more challenging than most, with the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in mass job losses and permanent business closures. We know that this year has been challenging, but we are hoping and asking for Northern Tasmanians to continue to be their generous selves for this year's iteration of the Empty Stocking Appeal.
Our four charity partners, the Salvation Army, the Benevolent Society, City Mission and St Vincent de Paul, rely on these funds to help the vulnerable in our communities.
All four charity partners have experienced an upswing in people seeking support, and there's been an increase in people looking for the first time.
This year is the most critical Empty Stocking Appeal yet, and while we know for many belts have been tightened, we're here to say every donation counts, and it's all of equal importance.
This year has been challenging for many families, and there will be many out there wondering how they will spread Christmas cheer in tough times.
But that's where the critical work of the charity partners comes in, and all funds raised go towards programs to help people get back on their feet after a significant crisis.
Now is the time more than ever to consider donating - if you've always thought about it and never done it, please consider it this year.
It's been a terrible year for everyone, but donating to the Empty Stocking Appeal is one way to pay it forward and ensure other families can enjoy the festive period without stress or worry. And to all of you who have already donated - thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
