While decent bowling held the visitors to 199 runs, a poor batting performance saw the home team scrounge together a mere 42 of their own.
Coach Tim Coyle said last weekend's result was disappointing, however getting a full game's worth was a plus.
"It wasn't the start to the year that we wanted, but these days happen in cricket and the most important thing is to learn from it and learn from it quickly,'' he said.
"We had a really good chat the other night as a group and it was pretty open and honest and we understand where we need to get better, and the challenge is to make sure come Saturday if we get on with this weather is that we go in a slightly different approach.
"We need to understand that it is very early in the season and we haven't had a massive preparation and the teams we are playing from Hobart, particularly those who have players in the first class program, have had a lot more practice at training and practice matches.
"We are a little bit behind in that area so we just need to get in there and fight."
In other news:
There was plenty for the team to work with on the bowling end, with Carlton's Evan Gulbis claiming 1-29 as well as two maidens in his debut.
Fellow Carlton recruit Brayden Stepien also saw the field in the orange for the first time, notching a catch.
Westbury's Oliver Wood's bowling also proved lethal as he claimed four maidens and two wickets.

- Tim Coyle
The team welcomes back 2019 leading run scorer and Burnie boy Brodie Hayes to this weekend's lineup.
Coyle said having a strong batsman such as Hayes would hopefully reinvigorate the team's batting as a whole.
"He played very well for us last season and we hope he's going to have a good hit for us this weekend," Coyle said.
UTAS will be without a number of heavy-hitters in Tim Paine, Tim Ward and Jake Doran.
Coyle said the game would be a challenge regardless, however if the Raiders could tighten their batting the game would be a good one.
The match will start at 10.30am depending on the weather.
