The program, which is run by the federal government in conjunction with the Australian Independent Record Labels Association, sees women from across Australia paired with relevant mentors from throughout the music industry.
Ms Lawes, who is the lead singer of indie/rock band Just Flare, was one of only 100 women selected from across the country to take part.
In other news:
"[I] just submitted an application and [suggested] some people I'd like to have mentor me, it could literally be anyone in the music industry in Australia," she said. "I put down some pretty big people ... so fingers crossed."
She is hoping the program will allow her to gain skills in social media marketing, leadership and how to future proof her music business.
"Music [even] without the pandemic is pretty hard to make it in so I wanted to learn ways I can be strategic about it and be smart and efficient with my time," Ms Lawes said.
"We're independent musicians and I do all of our social media, all of our admin so it is really hard for me to know if I'm doing the right thing or going in the right direction with it. To have a professional come in and give me some tips and tricks would be cool."
