Communication for Successful Dentists is written by Dr Dan Craig, who runs a dental clinic at Mowbray.
Dr Craig said his book is a step-by-step guide for dentists on developing good bedside manner with their patients.
"There's two aspects to dentistry: there's the clinical aspect and then there's the bedside manner," he said.
"While the technological advances are occurring rapidly in dentistry, something that is possibly a little overlooked ... is communication and developing patient rapport and trust."
In other news:
Dr Craig said this was important as it made the entire dentist-visiting experience better for both patient and dentist.
"Patients don't know what you're doing to their mouth," he said.
"They develop an opinion of you based on your character, you body language and your demeanour.
"While technical competency from the dentist is important, what's equally if not more important, is their body language, their demeanour and their rapport."
Dr Craig said the principles and the skeleton of the book can be applied to many other professions as well as dentistry.

He mentioned that an accountant acquaintance of his in Sydney is currently tweaking the book and relating the practices to the accounting world.
"A lot of the principles can be applied to any other profession in the service industry," Dr Craig said.
Profits from book sales will go towards Dr Craig's non-for-profit charity, which helps to mentor young kids prone to anti-social or criminal behaviour.
"That's one of my greatest passions outside dentistry," he said.
