Police are advising morning commuters travelling in the direction of Launceston that there's "heavy" traffic congestion in the area.
It comes after a fatal two-vehicle crash at Carrick caused sections of the highway to be closed earlier on Wednesday morning. Three people have been confirmed dead.
A section of the Bass Highway between Oaks Road and Illawarra Road is blocked, with traffic being diverted around the scene of the crash.
Police expect the section of road to be closed for a "considerable" amount of time. Motorists are requested to use Meander Valley Road to travel between Hagley and Launceston.
