Less than 40 overs were bowled at Invermay Park yet Quilliam needed just 17 to snag a memorable maiden A-grade scalp - Riverside captain Tom Garwood (18).
He added Patty Mackrell (10) and Ben Kidd (15) to his collection before finishing the first day of his second-ever A-grade match with 3-33 off 10 overs.
Jono Jones (1-24) removed Blues opener Josh Partridge in the fifth over of the day while John LeFevre snagged his second catch two overs before the rain came down, removing Matthew Owens and giving Jesse Price (1-24) his first wicket.
The Blues' resistance was led by keeper Peter New, who batted nearly the whole day to complete his third 50 of the season with a stylish 66 not out.
The knock featured 11 fours and a six and helped the Blues reach 5-127.

Stumps were called much earlier in the day at the NTCA No.2 where South Launceston made 2-74 from 20 overs.
The home side reached 40 before Matthew Battle removed Doug Ryan (15) via Dane Anderson's safe hands.
Sisitha Jayasinghe made a busy 39 but fell to the dangerous Kieren Hume (1-9) in the 17th over, leaving Sean Harris (14*) and Tom Waller (4*) to see off the final overs before the covers went on.
Both Cricket North's women's matches were called off without a ball being bowled, while all three second grade matches made it through at least 25 overs.
South Launceston's second grade opener Charlie Tindall was left stranded on 49 not out when rain put an end to the day's play with two balls remaining in the 35 over, while George Town made it to 7-79 in their visit to Launceston.
Lachie Mason starred with 50 as the Saints lost three wickets in the final 11 balls of the day.
