Clothing brand Jeanswest is the latest national retailer to enter a restructuring period due to poor retail conditions in Australia.

The retailer entered voluntary administration on Wednesday, leaving the futures of its 988 employees and 146 stores up in the air.
Jeanswest has stores in Launceston, Devonport, Burnie and Hobart employing a total of 40 people.

Professional services firm KPMG will act as administrator during the restructure.
KPMG retail restructering practice leader James Stewart said Jeanswest, like many retailers has been challenged by current tough market conditions and pressure from online competition.
"The administration provides an opportunity for Jeanswest to restructure so as to better respond to the challenging Australian retail market," he said.
