The man was taken from the crash on St Leonards Road to the Launceston General Hospital but was transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital the next day.
Ten days after the crash the St Leonards man remained at the Hobart hospital in a serious condition.

Initial investigations by police indicate the ute the man was driving hit a car that was travelling south before crashing head-on with a grey jeep.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
