The 2019-20 season has been hotly anticipated by anglers, who are expected to make the most of good lake heights and strong river flows across the state.
Saturday's early start paid off for brothers Tyler and Rylan Eustace, of Ulverstone, who had some of the first lines in the water at Selbourne come sunrise.
Mother Kate Eustace said Saturday morning's catch had proven much better than previous years.
"We were all out of bed by 4.30am this morning," she said.
"We like to get outdoors and we'll certainly chase anything we can get onto.
"We generally come here opening day every year."
In other news:
Primary Industries and Water Minister Guy Barnett said the eyes of the angling world would be on Tasmania in late November when the state hosts the World Fly Fishing Championships.
"We are expecting over 30 teams and an estimated 800 anglers from around the world and their support teams and supporters," he said.
"So it will be a big focus on Tasmania. An international focus, because we have a world class trout fishery and we are very proud of it."
Inland Fisheries director John Diggle said the season was looking fantastic.
"This lake is full. There is no problem with storage here - it's fantastic," he said.
"We put a bit over 4000 adult brown trout in here from Central Highlands spawning runs and another 1500 rainbow trout, that we purchased from commercial hatcheries.
"So this is well stocked and there is already a reasonable population holding over from previous years."
