The Meander Valley Council has lodged a development application to allow for a number of signs to be installed along the river.
The signs have information regarding the regulation of camping in the area.
Once the signs are installed it would turn the area, which is currently considered "non-conforming", into a regulated area.
"The intent of the application is to formalise, regulate and restrict the use in order to bring it into greater conformity with the planning scheme," the application said.
"Currently the use of the reserve for camping is unregulated and increased visitation and long term campers have generated conflict with adjoining neighbours."
The proposal will restrict overnight stays to fully self-contained vehicles, within a defined area of the site, with a maximum capacity of ten vehicles and a maximum period of stay of up to four days.
Campers will be restricted to the Northern part of the site, which is furthest away from neighbouring residences.
The application includes the erection of incidental signage to inform visitors of the regulations.

The number of campers permitted at the site will be regulated by the Bracknell Roadhouse management, who are responsible for issuing of a maximum of 10 permits at any time. A permit will cost $3 per night.
Currently, the council visit the site at least twice a week for maintenance and inspection. Campers without permits, or not adhering to the regulations will be considered as part of the Land Use Planning Approvals Act.
Part of the reserve, to the north of Louisa Street, has been developed with facilities, including barbecues and toilets, and is used for overnight camping.
Individual camping spots are not proposed for the site. The application prohibits camp fires and regulates the disposal of waste, factors which are currently not clearly regulated, the application said.
The application, to allow signs to be installed, is open for comment until Monday, August 12.
