A $250,000 development application for the town's only medical centre has been lodged with the City of Launceston council.
Helen Denney, who owns the practice with husband Colin, said while the plan was still in its early stages, it was a positive step.
"We are still finalising exactly what we can do with the building," she said.
"But it is a very positive thing.
"We are getting lots of patients who are coming to us and the current facilities just aren't big enough.
"We can see that the demand is there for the services and we are very much trying to satisfy it."
The health centre current employs two GPs, however Ms Denney said if the expansion went ahead as planned additional staff would be recruited.
Under the proposed plans, the clinic's existing ground floor would be extended to include a treatment room, nurse room, two additional consult rooms and a playroom.
An upper floor would also be added, consisting of a staff room and additional amenities.
Mrs Denney, who also owns the Lilydale Pharmacy located next door to the health care centre, said they were working to progress the development as fast as possible.
The application is open for comment until June 18.
