The debt was accrued during an Integrity Commission investigation into Mr Brooks' 2016 use of a private email account for government business. He resigned from the position in mid-2016 after the email use was revealed in budget estimates.
The revelation came during Mr Hodgman's budget estimates hearing, taking place in Hobart on Monday.
Mr Hodgman told the hearing though part of the debt was still outstanding, the most recent advice he had was that Mr Brooks was "making his monthly payments in accordance with the agreed payment schedule".

He was unable to confirm how much of the $57,888 figure was still owed, though Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary Jenny Gale told the hearing the debt was expected to be repaid by July.
The Integrity Commission report, handed down in November, concluded Mr Brooks did not have a material conflict of interest when he accessed the email account of his mining maintenance business while serving as Resources Minister, but did not adhere to robust ministerial protocols.
