The Tasmania Fire Service was called to the Beauty Point house about 10.45am on Thursday.
Fire fighters at the scene told The Examiner that the house had been gutted by fire and was going to collapse.
The house has asbestos and the crews will keep the house wet for this reason.
The cause is unknown. Fire investigators are travelling to the Scott Street house.
Due to industrial action, Tasmania Fire Service communications were unable to provide any additional comment.
