The event will be held at Adelaide show in August this year. Tucker will compete in the veterans over 60s team.
He said it was an honour and a privilege.
"I don't reckon there are too many mayors competing," he said. "I'm not the average mayor."
"You don't get this sort of opportunity very often. So when they tapped me on the shoulder I didn't turn it down."
Tucker has been competing for more than 42 years and has represented Tasmania on a number of occasions.
Tasmania will send a strong team in Henry Mayne, Gary Lovell, Peter and David Foster, and Barry Muskett.
Nine people in total will make up the team, with New Zealand having the same offering.
The team will compete in about six different events.
