The claim has come from smartphone manufacturer, Oppo.
The company did a study on the perceptions of social media held by young Australians.
In reaction to the finding that a quarter of young Australians aspired to be “Instagram influencers”, Oppo created an influencer internship position.
Oppo Australia managing director Michael Tran said the influencer intern position flew successful candidates to locations around Australia and New Zealand to capture “breathtaking images” for social media. The interns also received mentorship from brand ambassadors.
“We can see that in the not so distant future we will employ and train full-time influencers, in much the same way you would any employee,” he said.
“So, to kick it off, we’ve created a paid influencer internship.”
Influencer intern Alex Bradley took a trip to the Freycinet National Park as part of the position accompanied by Instagrammer and travel blogger Milly Bannister.
Ms Bradley said it was amazing to head down to visit Tasmania.
“I’ve always wanted to come down and check out the sites. I always knew of the beauty, especially of the East Coast,” she said.
“It was such an incredible opportunity to get to come down here for work and capture stunning imagery that is so unique to Tasmania.”
The trip took the two to parts of Freycinet including Friendly Beaches, Bluestone Bay, and Cape Tourville where they had the opportunity to go swimming, quad biking, and hiking.
The two posted their images to social media, amassing thousands of likes.
Oppo's social media study revealed the most commonly followed Instagram accounts were beauty and fashion, travel, and fitness.
It said 73 per cent of young Australians thought the number of followers and likes they got on Instagram was important, and 42 per cent were actively trying to build their following.
