And the resulting creation was such a hit that it was featured in an international balloon calendar.
Gabbi Murrell from Event Avenue approached Ms Parry, who owns Blast Balloons and Parties at South Launceston, about the baby shower after they had worked together on a Pusheen-inspired birthday party for Ms Murrell’s daughter earlier in the year.
“She asked me if I could do something for a tropical baby shower. I had pink foil flamingo balloons but couldn’t get a blue version and the baby’s sex was unknown,” Ms Parry said.
“So I started with white and they said they wanted more tonal colours so I came up with the blue and pink balloons with the flamingos.”
The different shades were created by balloons within balloons, with more than 1000 balloons included in the display.
“I landed and took over their lounge room. I had lots of flamingo balloons and an electric inflater,” Ms Parry said.
This creation took Ms Parry about 10 hours to create, but that work paid off when the design was picked up for the 2019 annual Qualatex calendar.
The tropical baby shower features in March, among balloon displays from artists around the world.
“To be able to have a design in a worldwide calendar is special,” she said.
Ms Parry bought the Blast Balloons and Parties business three years ago and creates balloon displays for parties and corporate clients throughout Launceston.
