Morning Star skipper Jo Breen, of Tamar Yacht Club, embarked on the Sundance Marine Melbourne Osaka Cup on March 15.
Racing was suspended for most of the fleet as Tropical Cyclone Iris hit the Queensland coast earlier this week, although Morning Star did not stop racing along with four other yachts.
The duo have passed New Guinea during the 5500 nautical mile handicap race between Melbourne and Osaka on Saturday.
Ms Breen has clocked up more than 30,000 nautical miles in her career, which includes multiple trans-Atlantic crossings.
Force Eleven, which is captained by Launceston’s Tristan Gourley with co-skipper Jamie Cooper are currently off the coast of Queensland after starting on March 26.
