For seven years, Debbie Steer has provided specialist skills and knowledge in numerous fields, such as financial management, customer service and business planning.
The 48-year-old woman works as a Business Advisor at Business & Employment in Launceston.
Last month Ms Steer was named the 2017 Best Regional Business Enterprise Centres Australia advisor award winner and champion for small businesses
Ms Steer took home the award for her ‘outstanding assistance and commitment to local businesses, helping them break into the commercial market in Tasmania’.
“Small businesses can find it incredibly difficult to break into the market, as it is quite competitive,” she said.
“I think it’s important to help them in any way possible to give them a stable footing.
“I want to make sure that our clients get the best education out there possible, so they have the best chance at making it.”

Business and Employment manager Kim Beveridge said Ms Steer’s win was deserved.
“Debbie has assisted hundreds of small business clients and has recorded significant outcomes for them in terms of new businesses opened or revived,” she said.
“In the process, many new employment opportunities have also been created.”
Ms Beveridge said her employee had always gone the extra mile to ensure her clients received the best education and business advice “from personally training with the Australian Taxation Office to get a better understanding of cash flow, to hosting multiple workshops about financial assistance and business planning”.
A passion of Ms Steer’s has been the establishment and success of the regular Women’s Entrepreneur Network Lunches.
Self-made business women in Northern Tasmania gather to share their work experiences and business knowledge, with the wider aim of enhancing the small business sector in the north.
“This gives female business owners the opportunity to network and tap into sources of business knowledge and personal development opportunities,” Ms Steer said.
The next Women in Business event will be held on September 13.
S. Group’s new director of marketing Tara Howell will share her experience of operating in Launceston.
Attendees must purchase a ticket online by searching Women Entrepreneurs Networking Lunch at Eventbrite.com.au.
It will begin at 12.15pm.
