The motion was moved by Councillor Peter Kearney, who wrote in the agenda item “the recent floods have been extraordinarily damaging to the assets of individuals, communities and to council infrastructure. “
“In previous natural disasters, our council has made donations to assist other communities. These donations have been to communities in Tasmania and beyond,” Councillor Kearney said.
“Such a donation is important as it helps in a small way to help remediate the damage caused by the disaster.
“At another level, it is a small gesture of solidarity with the affected community. It lets people know that they are not on their own.”
The $10,000 donation will be put towards a project to be nominated by the mayor of the Kentish Council, Don Thwaites.
