The man, aged 63, from Riverside, was swept away in floodwaters while in a vehicle on his newspaper delivery route for Fairfax Media on Tuesday morning.
His female companion was also caught up in the incident, but recovered by rescue teams shortly before daybreak on Tuesday.
In the state’s South, while searching for a missing Ouse man, rescue teams found a man in the Ouse river whose kayak had been overturned.
The man, in his mid 40s, was using the kayak to attempt to access his property, which had been cut off by rising floodwaters.
Nearby was a co-worker of the man, who was on dry, safe land.
He was rescued without incident.
UPDATE 3.30pm: The man missing at Evandale was a contract delivery driver, delivering newspapers for Fairfax Tasmania, with his female companion.
The woman was later rescued by the helicopter.
A Fairfax Media spokesperson said: “Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the contract delivery driver and his partner who were delivering newspapers for us when caught in floodwaters in Evandale near Launceston this morning. We’re relieved the man’s partner is safe – however our deep concerns remain for the driver who is still missing. All our support and care is being offered during this truly difficult time.”
UPDATE 11am: The Westpac Rescue Helicoper continues to scour the Northern Midlands for a man who went missing in floodwaters early on Tuesday morning.
The man, and his female companion, were delivering newspapers when their vehicles was overcome by water.
The woman was later rescued by the helicopter.
At Latrobe, the body of a 75-year-old woman has been recovered from her Shale Road home.
She has been identified as Mary Kathleen Allford.
Her husband was safely recovered from the home on Monday.
In the state’s south, police recommenced a search for a missing Ouse man on Tuesday morning.
The man, in his 80s, was swept away from his property about 8am on Monday.
Marine police, as well as SES members and search and rescue specialists are involved in the search.
EARLIER: Emergency services have made a plea to the public to abide by all closed road signs as they continue to search for a missing person at Evandale.
Police reported about 5.50am on Tuesday that they were searching for two people in the Northern Midlands township who had been caught by rising flood waters on the roads.
It was a man and a wife.
Just before 7am, they advised that the woman had been recovered alive and well.
Police said that rising flood waters had meant some of the road closure signs had been washed away, and asked that all motorists check the Tasmania Police community alerts page for road closures.
