The team was last year successful in its debut at the Australian championships, taking out third place in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology's Tech Challenge at Sydney's Macquarie University.
Team mentor Jon Heathcote said the group was now trying to gain sponsorship to help fund its invitation to compete at Sydney's Asia-Pacific Invitation in July.
Mr Heathcote said part of the challenge's criteria was the level of community engagement and fund- raising activities undertaken by the team.
"We would like people to sponsor us," Mr Heathcote said.
"We are still looking for more people, or businesses, to lend us a hand in getting over there."
Sausage sizzles and demonstration days will be held by the team to help spread knowledge about their endeavours.
He said, if successful in gaining funds, the group would re-enter their robot "Steve" in the upcoming competition.
The team said they hoped for success, explaining that "Steve" was the only robot capable of levering itself off the ground, one of the set tasks in competition at the 2013 championships.
Metal Minds will showcase their robotics prowess during April 26 and 27's Lego Brixhebition at Kings Meadows High School gym.
