The man will face one count of arson and one count of unlawfully setting fire to vegetation.
Police alleged that about 5pm yesterday, bushland near Tandara Street in Ravenswood was deliberately set alight.
The fire was contained by the Tasmania Fire Service and no properties were in danger, but Ravenswood was blanketed by thick smoke for several hours.
A suspect was located by police near the scene a short time later. He was arrested and taken to the Launceston Police Station for questioning. He was later charged with lighting the fire.
The man was also charged with allegedly lighting a fire at house in Rosetta Place, also in Ravenswood, on December 20 last year. The alleged fire caused more than $200,000 damage.
