The name is used for the state's under 18 sides, and the AFL has registered it as a trademark through the Australian government.

Tasmania has also played under the name of Mariners in past iterations of the under 18 side.
An official announcement of Tasmania becoming the AFL's 19th team is imminent after club presidents unanimously endorsed Tasmania's bid into the competition on Tuesday.
