Griffith, who was appointed Hurricanes' head coach ahead of the 2018-19 tournament, will also immediately end his role as Cricket Tasmania director of coaching.

He told Cricket Tasmania on Monday he would not be seeking contract extensions for the positions.

"My two main focuses have always been to win and produce Australian players," he said.

"There have been several players from both the men's Tigers and Hurricanes programs who have been selected for Australia during the last five years.

"However, while making several finals across both programs, we have not won the trophies the Tasmanian fans deserve ... I feel the time is right for a new hand to help write the next chapters."

The misfiring Hurricanes finished fifth in BBL11 this summer and were eliminated by the Adelaide Strikers in the opening finals match.

Hurricanes captain Matthew Wade recently shut down claims he and Griffith were split over a decision to take the wicketkeeping role off him ahead of the finals.

Hobart, who are yet to win a domestic Twenty20 title, were top of the table in Griffith's first year in BBL08 but lost a do-or-die semi-final.

They were knocked out in the first week of the finals in BBL09 and missed the play-offs in BBL10.

Griffith was appointed head coach of Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield and one-day competitions in 2017, taking the state to a first-class final in his first season.

It came after consecutive last-placed Shield seasons.

Griffith, who claimed 169 first-class wickets for Tasmania and Lancashire, said he still had a strong passion for coaching but wanted to spend more time with family after some challenging years.

Griffin was assistant coach when the Hurricanes made the BBL final in 2017-18 and took over from South African Gary Kirsten in 2018.

Former Australia allrounder James Faulkner in September accused Griffith of sticking a knife "straight in his back" amid his departure from the Hurricanes.

Faulkner claimed a disrespectful and embarrassing contract offer led to him leaving the franchise.

Cricket Tasmania Chairman, Andrew Gaggin, said Griffith had rebuilt the Tigers and Hurricanes into genuine silverware contenders and both programs were in a better position than when he started.

Griffith stepped back as Shield head coach in 2019, becoming director of coaching.
