Sitting in fourth at the end of play on Monday, Bailey finished second with rounds of 76 and 71, a two-over-par total of 298.

This came as talented young golfers converged on Devonport's Country Club for the competition's second day.

Competitors arrived from across Australia to take part in the championships.

This year the biggest contingent arriving from Queensland.

Eaton said this benefited the region's golfers.

"Obviously the kids themselves go up against the best juniors in Australia on the courses they've probably seen a little bit better.

"So probably, a bit of familiarity there for the likes of players like Jonty Lunson, that are playing on their home course.

"So that certainly is a great test for these juniors."

Each day of the two-day tournament, golfers played 36-holes.

Eaton said the weather had been great, and was a little cooler on Tuesday with a bit of a breeze.

He said 44 golfers had taken part in the competition.

"Which is great considering we're in the middle of a pandemic."

Speaking before the final of four rounds, Tasmanian Hunter Gillard was tied for second place, which was great Eaton said.

"It would be fantastic to see a local lad get up and win."

Yuuki Takada finished first in the girls' competition with a six-under-par total of 290.

In the boys' competition, Royal Hobart Golf Club's Hunter Gillard slipped from second after day one, to finish third. He finished seven-over-par total of 287.

Joseph Buttress from Western Australian Golf Club won the boys' competition with four-under-par total of 276.
