Kambosos arrives home to hero's reception

More than 200 fans, mostly from the Greek community, chanted "Georgie, Georgie, Georgie" when Australia's newly crowned world lightweight champion paraded his IBF, WBO and WBA belts through the Sydney International Airport on Thursday.

The 28-year-old dedicated his straps to the whole of Australia following his spectacular upset win over previously unbeaten American Teofimo Lopez in New York.

"As much as I had to go do it inside the ropes, my family and my friends and both my countries lifted me, especially in that round 10," Kambosos said on Thursday.

"It's a big moment for everyone that's been around me, a big moment for Australia. This is huge.

"I had to go and really earn it. I had to go to the back yard (of my rivals) multiple times and to go and beat this guy in his prime and in his home town - no Australian fighter's ever done that before."

Kambosos plans to defend his "jewels" in April or May in front of 80,000 fans in Sydney or Melbourne.

The self-proclaimed "Emperor" is leaning towards a unified mega-fight with WBC champion Devin Haney but isn't ruling out taking on either of fellow Americans Ryan Garcia or Gervonta Davis or Vasilily Lomachenko, the Ukrainian considered the premier pound-for-pound boxer in the world before losing his titles to Lopez last year.

So long as his challengers are willing to come to Australia.

"We're bringing the big fights here now. I deserve it, I've earned that," Kambosos said.

"I haven't fought here since 2017."

Lomachenko doubts Kambosos will want to fight him, but hopes the Sydney slugger will offer up the chance to win his belts back.

"I love the Haney fight," Kambosos said.

"Lomachenko, I've got to give him respect. He went and got most of these belts. Obviously Lopez beat him but I've got to give him that respect.

"So they're all in the mix. Haney, Davis, Lomachenko, Garcia, they're all going to get it."

Promising to retain his "tunnel vision" in pursuit of boxing greatness, Kambosos said he'd be back training immediately for his title defence after spending some quality time with his three young children.

"A hundred per cent I'll be in the gym this afternoon," he said.

"Because I know they're going to come hunting. I'm the most hunted man in the world right now in the lower division. They're all calling me out.

"But I love it. I've gone from the hunter to the hunted. That burning desire, that hunger, that feeling of what I've gone and achieved, how hard this road has been to achieve this, no way they're going to take this off us.

"These are our belts and they're going to stay here for a very long time."

Kambosos categorically ruled out fighting a fellow Australian.

"There will be no tune-up fight," he said.

"I'm cut from a different cloth. I'm not like the typical Australian fighter that's gonna milk this now.

"I'm coming for the biggest names. I want to take the more risks. I could sit here and milk this and try to make as much money as I can, but that's never been me.

"So we're going to fight the best of the best and keep proving why I am the emperor in the lightweight division."
