The contest between the three leading schools was close throughout the day at St Leonards Athletics Centre and with two relays to go only four points separated Cressy and Scottsdale.
The day's two record-breakers, Taia Lette and Wade Lamont, both from Scottsdale High, produced top-quality performances - breaking not only the division two meet record but the NHSSA benchmarks across all three divisions.
Lamont also easily bettered the entry standard for the 2022 under-18 national championships and Lette was just 1cm short of achieving the same in her age group.
Lamont's 700-gram Grade 10 javelin throw of 60.44m demolished the previous divisions record of 54.10m. Lamont also won the 100m, 400m and shot put.
Meanwhile Lette's leap of 1.62m in the Grade 9 high jump bettered the division three record by 15cm and the all divisions record by 1cm.
Lette also won the Grade 9 100, 200m, triple jump and shot put and helped Scottsdale win the 4x100m relay.
Athletics Tasmania's Brian Roe praised the Scottsdale pair.
"Both should ensure that the Northern team for next week's revival of the Statewide High Schools Carnival will not all be from division one schools," he said.
"And they may be joined by others given the pleasingly high standard of performances at today's meet - which after a cool start was contested in good conditions for athletics."
Cressy's Mia Jarman achieved an impressive haul by winning the Grade 10 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump and triple jump.
Deloraine's Amber Sherriff won the Grade 8 100m, 200m and 400m.
The division one carnival is being held on Wednesday and division three on Thursday.
Meanwhile, little athletics returns to Launceston this weekend with the second meet of the state series.
More than 340 athletes aged from 5-14 years representing 17 centres across Tasmania will compete at the St Leonards athletics centre from 10am to 3pm on Saturday.
