The partnership between the Northern Tasmanian Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association and the Tasmanian Cricket League wants more people involved in umpiring ahead of the new season.
NTCUSA president Peter Griffin said the roles were a great way to be involved with Australia's beloved summer sport.
"It's a great character-building thing and it's also very good to keep involved with the cricket," he said.
"We need people with a good temperament and who are level-headed and well organised."
Cricket is well known for its intricacies and quirky rules, however, new umpires will be provided with ongoing training throughout the season to ease the transition into the role.
"We make it as smooth as we can, we do everything we can to help people through that first journey so from that first training until they get to the standard that they can umpire any grade in the North of the state," Griffin said.
The associations are keen to see an uptake from new participants, especially young people and women.
"We certainly need some females to come along because the amount of female cricket is increasing [every year]," Griffin said.
"Come along to the training course induction night and see what it is all about and take it from there."
Griffin said there is a proven development pathway to grow in the game for those who are interested.
"We can get you onto a pathway, well and good, but the main thing is we want to make you a competent umpire and improve your standard over the next year or two," he said.
The associations are hosting an induction night on August 31 at the NTCA Ground, commencing at 6pm.
