The grade 12 student had come into close contact with a 31-year-old NSW traveler who tested positive to COVID-19 after arriving in Tasmania.
Scotch Oakburn principal Andy Muller said both the boarders and the school was happy with the outcome of the test.
"Everybody who is considered ... a secondary contact has been in isolation today until we got the negative result and then they were allowed to leave isolation," he said.
"The student who was on the flight with the gentleman from NSW is still in isolation, and he will be for the next 11 or 12 days I believe."
A total of 70 students from grades 6-12 were in isolation until the negative test result was returned.
However, no other staff or students were tested, only the one student in close contact with the confirmed case.
The student did attend classes on Monday before they were told they needed to isolate, but Mr Muller was informed by the Health Department that the other students in those classes did not have to isolate as they were not considered a secondary contact.
The boarders returned to school on Friday afternoon.
Public Health director Dr Mark Veitch said Scotch Oakburn had cooperated with the contact tracing team.
"The circumstances at Scotch Oakburn College was that a person associated with that school was identified as a contact, they were required to quarantine which they did," he said.
