The Australians lost to Turkey in their final encounter at the Latvia-based tournament 56-52, the second time the Emus had fallen to that country after a 64-62 defeat in the group stage.
The latest loss during the tournament's classification stage ensured the Emus finished in 10th position as the US won its second straight title.
Armstrong finished with seven points, three rebounds and one assist, while Smith finished with three points for the match.
Armstrong averaged 6.7 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game and Smith averaged 6.3 points per game, 1.3 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game for the tournament.
Australia defeated Latvia 89-44 and Puerto Rico 95-52 since its round of 16 loss.
