The sole Greater Northern League side to progress past round two of the competition last month, South defied the odds as captain Hayley Johns found the back of the net in the dying seconds.
A Kiah Williams run through the middle created the chance, threading the needle to Hannah Connolly at the top of the circle, who was met in the middle by DiamondBacks keeper Cami Vaughan.
The ball rolled free to Johns and the rest is history.
It wasn't until the final five minutes that the Suns' fairytale finish even looked likely.
DiamondBacks captain Nicole Geeves scored early in the first quarter before goalless second and third terms saw the score remain at 1-0.
Connolly was an integral part of the Suns' revival also, running down the far wing before offering a precision pass in front of the streaming Jessie Pankiw put her with only Vaughan and her trailing defender to beat.
A diving effort saw both Pankiw and the goalkeeper go to ground but a brilliant second effort saw the Suns gun put the ball over the remaining defender's stick to draw it up.
The win was a contrasting one to the Suns' June 19 victory over Derwent, with South Launceston leading for almost all the game.
Despite the loss, DiamondBacks duo Phillida Bridley and Geeves were named the best two players on the pitch, with Pankiw, Johns and Williams filling out the sheet for South Launceston.
The Suns will have to wait until July 31 to know their opponent as OHA takes on North West Graduates in the other semi-final.
While a grand-final date isn't confirmed, Hockey Tasmania's website says it will be after the regular seasons are done, potentially as a HockeyOne curtain-raiser.
