Station officer John Hardstaff said the Tasmania Fire Service was called to the Devonport wharf by Ambulance Tasmania just after 3pm on Friday.
He said Devonport firefighters and Latrobe volunteers responded with two fire appliances and a specialist rescue vehicle.
"Upon TFS arrival Ambulance Tasmania paramedics had stabilised the patient. The patient was buried to his waist in grain when Ambulance Tasmania first arrived," Station Officer Hardstaff said.
"The patient was removed by firefighters and paramedics using specialist equipment after approximately one and a half hours.
"The patient was then transported to the LGH for treatment, suffering from possible crush injuries."
Worksafe Tasmania was notified and will conduct an investigation into the incident.
