The increase in businesses requiring the check in process has been extended due to the evolving COVID-19 situation interstate and the increasing risk of fast transmission with new variants.
Being COVID-safe is nothing new for Baxter's IGA owner David Baxter, who has worked in the industry for more than 40 years, including in Hong Kong during the height of the SARS virus.
His business adapted to COVID regulations quickly - with spacing dots on the floor, more space in between shelves and hand sanitiser.
At the height of the pandemic in the state last year, Mr Baxter had the need for staff to monitor numbers in and out due to increased demand.
Checking in an additional requirement that Mr Baxter said will be easily implemented, with the QR code to be posted on the front door.
"It all came to life very quickly [last year], the public were all very aware and we had a lot of compliments on what we did," he said.

"We do rely on the public following directions ... the general public in this instance need to have top of their mind that we're very fortunate in Tasmania, we've got some isolation and the state government has done a very good job."
A spokesman from the Department of Health said the full range of businesses required to start using the app is still being finalised and further information will be provided as soon as possible.
There will also be a phase in period to provide time for businesses to start using the Check in Tas app.

"Any time you enter a business or a venue displaying a Check in Tas QR code you should check in," the spokesman said.
"Having this information would be critically important for Public Health contact tracers in the event a case of COVID-19 occurs in Tasmania.
"If you do not have a smartphone or are unable to use one to check in, other people in your group can check in for you on their app or staff at the venue can check you in manually."
More than 21,000 venues and events have registered for the app, which has been downloaded more than 570,000 times.
