Belgian Sofie Verhaegen and Englishwoman Jess Robinson both recovered from missing golden chances in the first 10 minutes to dominate the midfield in the third-versus-fifth clash at Birch Avenue.
Verhaegen scored a cool opener then played a pivotal role in helping Robinson to a second-half hat-trick with an own goal on the stroke of half-time completing the home team's tally.
"We made a slow start but I'm happy with the way we came back into it," said co-coach Lynden Prince.
"We made a positive start to the second half and were much better on the ball.
"Jess is like a midfield general for us, keeping the shape through the middle and creating things going forward."
Laura Davis equalised Verhaegen's opener but Jess McCallumsmith's cross was diverted in just before the break and United never looked back.
Robinson's hat-trick came inside 20 minutes and consisted of three excellent finishes, two set up by the former Standard Liège midfielder, all greeted with a personalised celebratory song from the United bench.
Kate Bonertz-Benn's late strike for Kingborough had consolation written all over it.
Struggling Devonport went down 4-1 at home to ladder-leader Clarence.
Second plays fourth when Olympia hosts South Hobart on Sunday. Bottom-placed Taroona has the bye this weekend.
NPL Tasmania
Riverside coach Alex Gaetani found plenty of positives despite his side falling to a fifth straight loss against unbeaten Glenorchy at Windsor Park.
A spirited second-half showing almost salvaged a point before an injury-time sealer gave the Knights a 3-1 win.
"They were clearly dominant in the first half but we made a few changes at half-time and I thought that was as good football as we've played all season," Gaetani said.
"We gambled a bit at the end and it cost us but overall I'm really happy with their attitude."
In his final appearance before joining Victorian NPL2 side Pascoe Vale, Joffrey Nkoso showed what Tasmania will be losing with a superb first half capped by a slightly fortuitous opening goal which deflected past the luckless Dan Nash.
Cade Smith had several chances to add to the lead before Eduardo Castaneda obliged with an excellent free-kick.
The long-awaited return of Olympic's Argentinean import Luca Vigilante early in the second half swung the momentum and saw the hosts finally begin to threaten.
Will Humphrey had already claimed Olympic's best chance with a long-range shot which bounced wickedly in front of keeper Lachy Hart before reducing the arrears five minutes from time.
For the second time this season, the unflappable left-footer demonstrated his reliability from the penalty spot after Tom Prince was adjudged to have been fouled by Hart.
Olympic threw everything at Hart in the final minutes which allowed the wily Nick Mearnes to steal in for a rather flattering third deep into stoppage time.
"Luca made a big difference," Gaetani added. "He's an important player for us, one of our stronger players, and it's great to have him back."
Olympia proved too strong for Launceston City at Warrior Park, cruising to a 4-1 win.
Goals from Koby Moschogianis, Kyle Vincent and Austin Yost had the hosts in control at the break.
Kyle Vincent added a fourth soon after the restart with Mason Gardner grabbing City's consolation on the hour mark.
The summit meeting between the top two saw second-placed South Hobart knock off early pace-setters Kingborough 2-1 at Darcy Street.
Champion Devonport continues to churn out one-goal victories, also winning 2-1, against Clarence at Valley Road.
Northern Championship
Riverside Olympic went goal crazy in the women's Northern Championship, thumping Somerset Sharks 12-1.
Meg Connolly (four), Margaret White (three) Sofia Bailey, Mia Finlay (two each) and Jess Whiteley scored the goals.
"We were patient and had enough quality to finish the game the way we did," coach Jo Haezebrouck said. "Mia was completely unstoppable today. When she is switched on, she is top class."
Runaway leaders Northern Rangers continued their relentless march with a 2-0 win against Launceston City. Febey Chugg and Moana Chamberlin claimed the goals.
Launceston United went down 8-0 against Ulverstone and Devonport Strikers lost 3-0 at home to Burnie United.
In the men's competition, Launceston City edged a cracking game 4-3 against Northern Rangers at the NTCA Ground.
Brendon McCaffrey scored twice while coach Justin Dyer highlighted the efforts of Matt Owens and Juan Carlos.
Rangers replied through Wes Chugg, Wylie Howell and an own goal.
Will Neilson scored Riverside Olympic's only goal in a 1-5 loss to Somerset.
"If you switch off for a few moments, you get punished," said Olympic coach Joe Evans. "Very frustrating because we played well in parts."
Launceston United lost 2-3 to Ulverstone while Devonport Strikers went down 2-4 to Burnie United.
