Greater Northern Raiders: optimism remains in final beating season

Despite limiting the Knights to 2-43 chasing 223 runs in the beginning of their innings last week, things quickly went south for the boys in orange on Saturday.

The usually stingy Raiders bowling gave way to Kingborough's Dylan Hay, who got his side off to a 33-run morning.

But it was partner Jake Steele who stole the show, walloping a century that included 15 fours to take command of the match.

Recent Raiders addition Dihan Cloete managed to nick Hay to claim his first wicket in orange.

"Dihan's got a lot of promise - he's a very exciting player," Raiders captain Oliver Wood said.

"He's certainly learning his craft and learning what works well for him and everything else.

"He's had a really good season with Launceston in the pace he's bowled ... I think it's great for the program and really what we want players to strive for."

But Steele and number five Beau Webster (48) managed to push through the Raiders' total in 64 overs.

While the loss was a less than optimal way to finish the season, Wood believed his side had an overall positive season.

"It was a bit of a tough way to finish the season, but at the end of the day that's cricket," he said.

"We won't let this dampen what's been a good year, that's for sure."
