BBL: Hurricanes' international batsmen struggling to fire

The Canes have attracted three of the world's top T20 batsmen in the past five seasons - Kumar Sangakkara, David Miller and Dawid Malan - but all have failed to reproduce their usual form in the BBL.

Of this season's five overseas imports, Malan and Colin Ingram both averaged around 25 from 10 games, Will Jacks and Keemo Paul struggled in limited games and spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was serviceable with the ball.

"It's a really hard one for batters to come into this tournament because the level's so high and the conditions are potentially pretty different to what they've had in the past," Griffith said.

"That's probably why Colin did reasonably well for us, he's played in the comp before [with Adelaide Strikers] and he did a pretty good job for us.

"Whether we change tack a little bit and think about domestic batters and overseas all-rounders and bowlers I'm not sure - that's something we'll have a chat about.

"But it wasn't just our overseas batters - plenty of our local guys probably didn't have the season they would have liked either."

The Hurricanes were knocked out of BBL10 in disappointing fashion on Tuesday after failing to chase down 150 against cellar-dwellers Melbourne Renegades.

Having reached 2-70 at the 10-over mark, the Canes finished 9-138 for the match and net run rate short of a finals spot.

Griffith's side dearly missed batting potency in the lower order in BBL10, especially when all-rounder James Faulkner suffered another hamstring injury five games in, ruling him out of the tournament.

Griffith said he would sit down with Faulkner to discuss the 30-year-old's playing future in the coming weeks.

"When Jimmy plays it's great to have him but he's been a bit limited in the last couple of years," Griffith said.

"It's probably our all-rounder spot which costs us a little bit when Jimmy's not there with his batting ... but I actually think our bowling group functioned well throughout the tournament, I don't think that was one of our issues.

"But I'll sit down with him over the next couple of weeks and chat through it again and see where he's at."
