The Leanne Gaffney-trained five-year-old opened at $3.90 with tab.com.au but the price didn't last long.
He quickly firmed to $2.80 before the market settled and he eased slightly to $2.90.
The lightly-raced Dark Wanderer surprisingly opened favourite at $3.70 before drifting to $4.20.
There was early money for White Hawk at big odds ($31 into $13) while Sh'bourne Renegade was identified by some punters as an 'over' and firmed from $17 into $7.
As expected, Eastender has been scratched from the race to run in the $100,000 Tasmanian Stakes at Mowbray on Friday.
Leanne Gaffney said the weight-for-age race was always her preference but the gelding's owners wanted to see the Tasmanian Stakes field before making a final decision.
His rivals at Mowbray will include weight-for-age star Mandela Effect and Hobart Cup winner Toorak Affair.
FORM AT A GLANCE
SHOT OF IRISH: Classy galloper who has won four city races in Victoria. On-pace runner. First start on synthetic is the query.
NEWHART: Last year's winner. Lead-up form good. Over-raced last start and drops 1.5kg. Wide barrier looks only negative.
GEE GEE FIORENTE: Ran past Newhart in Sheffield Cup. Now meets him 2kg worse but was very strong at finish. Danger.
DARK WANDERER: Won 5 of 6 and brave in Sheffield Cup. Likes to lead and, if gets own way, will give big sight from barrier 1.
WHITE HAWK: Big run in Longford Cup when rallied late. More depth here but capable of figuring if he doesn't get too far back.
GALWAY GIRL: Failed in Longford Cup when favourite. Previous form good and has won 3 of 4 on this track. Unproven this distance.
ORANGE ROUGHIE: Revelation since joining Brighton trainer Stephen Shaw. Going for six in a row and not out of it.
SH'BOURNE RENEGADE: Goes well this track. Not far away in Sheffield Cup second-up after spell. Fitter now. Could surprise.
KANJI: On-pace runner with two wins this track including Bm74 race last month. Win would surprise but place hope at odds.
ETHICAL DILEMMA: Forget luckless run in Longford Cup. Form lines up with Orange Roughie so, if he's a chance, so is this horse at much longer odds.
WHITE CLIFFS: Up in class on last-start narrow win in Bm66 race and yet to win on synthetic. Hard to be confident.
SHEWEARSTHEPANTS: Beaten in Bm66 race at Longford. Honest mare but up in class and yet to win in six starts on synthetic.
GENERALMAINTENANCE: Nice run when 4th in Longford Cup. Won only 3 of 40, a strike-rate that doesn't inspire confidence.
WINEGLASS BAY: Boasts a win over Glass Warrior this track/distance but it was 16 months ago. Would need to find that form.
