With very few overs of bowling under his belt, Sam O'Mahony wasn't sure how he was going to get a spot in the Greater Northern Raiders' team at the start of this month.

After his maiden century in senior cricket on Saturday, he may have just locked in a place via a method that didn't appear likely at the start of the season.
Reveling in his new role as an opening batsman, the 19-year-old bludgeoned his way to 108 from only 86 balls in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League clash with South Hobart Sandy Bay at Queenborough Oval, registering seven fours and seven sixes in the process
O'Mahony said the innings was far more satisfying than his whirlwind 24-ball 63 in a Twenty20 match against New Town a week earlier, although he wasn't expecting to get a berth at the top of the order in the 50-over format.
"I had no word on where I would be in the order until Thursday night - I thought I was going to be shuffled down the order a bit and had set myself to be someone who would come in late in the innings," O'Mahony said.
"I got told I would be opening again so I had to change my mindset.
"My role was to still be a pinch-hitter at the top of the innings, but I had a bit more time on Saturday to get myself going.
"I got away with a couple of shots that were dropped early, but you need a bit of luck in this game, and they were tough chances.
"But I thought to myself that is must be my day today so I better cash in."
Before his dream fortnight with the willow, O'Mahony was being picked predominantly as a bowler, but just not getting much opportunity with the ball.
While he looks set for an extended stay in the side purely on what he can provide in the batting line-up, he is still keen to show what he can do with the ball.
"We've got another one-dayer next round so hopefully I can get another game, but there is every chance I'll be back down the order for the two-day games after Christmas where the red ball moves around a bit more," he said.
"If I get thrown the ball, I'll do the best I can with it, but I'm just making the best of the situation at the moment."
