The 15-year-old ran the table at the division three Northern High School Sports Association carnival a fortnight ago.
The speedster finished first in the grade 9-10 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.
Wheatley admitted while he had only been actively enjoying athletics for a couple of years, the Flinders Island native loved it.
"It's something I've really come to like to do," he said.
"I really like the running, I enjoy all the running events."
While Flinders has no formal tracks for Wheatley to practise on, he said he was content with the island's picturesque flat beaches and dirt tracks.
Elsewhere in sport:
Wheatley was one of eight Flinders High students to make the journey from the island to St Leonards for the carnival. He said the 30-minute flight and early rise did little to faze his form.
"It was a good trip and it was quite long, but we got there in the end," he said.
"The flight doesn't change anything performance-wise at all."
Flinders High health and physical education teacher Justin Graham said he was proud of how the school's athletes performed.
He said while the logistics of bringing students from Flinders to the event proved a constant obstacle, the results yielded from the experience made the expense worth it.
"Taking eight athletes across was an awesome achievement in itself and then to have the athletes achieve awesome results, that was fantastic to see," Graham said.
"I think we can justify taking more athletes across moving forward because we are competitive."
Wheatley said he was surprised he finished first in so many of the races he competed in, particularly the 200 and 1500m.
"[I was] Not expecting to come first place in so many ... I went away to state a few weeks before that and I was expecting really hard competition, they all put up a good run," he said.
"I've never competed in a 200m, and the 1500m as well was a surprise."
Both Wheatley and Graham concurred that a return trip to carnivals in 2021 was on the school's radar.
"For Connor, I'd love for him to get away to the state event next year as well," Graham said.
"He did that this year and achieved some amazing times, including personal bests in nearly all of his races.
"When I was looking through the results from the state athletics it was nice to see Flinders Island being represented there."
