This means any traveller from the state to Tasmania will be required to go into mandatory quarantine for 14 days.

This follows advice from Public Health Services on a COVID-19 outbreak in the state which has so far reported 17 new coronavirus cases since the weekend.

Premier Peter Gutwein said if a person did not have a suitable residence in which to quarantine, they would have to go into a government-run hotel.

Mr Gutwein said seasonal workers scheduled to arrive to the state from Adelaide on Monday night would be placed in mandatory quarantine.

He said further information on the circumstance in Adelaide would be received overnight and he would provide an further update on Tasmania's response on Tuesday morning.

Earlier on Monday, the government requested anyone who had been in South Australia since November 9 to immediately self-isolate at their home or in their accommodation.

Mr Gutwein said 900 people have arrived to Tasmania from South Australia in the last week.

He urged these people not to visit a Tasmanian aged care facility or hospital unless they had arranged a visit through the COVID-19 hotline.

Public Health director Mark Veitch said South Australia had not had a locally diagnosed coronavirus case since April before the outbreak over the weekend.

He said the state's system of contact tracing of the current outbreak had been excellent so far.

Dr Veitch said contact tracing on the final coronavirus cases would be provided on Tuesday morning.

"The risk for people that are currently in Tasmania [from South Australia] may be less than it is for people coming in the coming days," he said.

"South Australia has done some pretty thorough contact tracing so far and most of the cases do seem to tied up to a family cluster."

Mr Gutwein on Monday announced the government had deferred the arrival of the first repatriation flight into Tasmania from November 22 to early December.

He said this was because the state and federal governments had not yet reached agreement on arrangements around the flights, particularly to do with health and quarantine resources.

This was in addition to the developing situation in South Australia, Mr Gutwein said.

Western Australia and the Northern Territory have also tightened their border controls with South Australia.

Queensland has imposed restrictions on people from Adelaide, but not the rest of the state.
