Cricket: Tasmania reflect on disappointing NSW loss

With an "incredibly disappointing" loss against New South Wales finishing the Tigers' four-game tour after bowling the Blues out for 64 in the first innings, Vaughan admitted they let a really good opportunity slip.

"We reflected on it last night and had a chat about our entire time in Adelaide and there's a lot of positives to take out of it,' he said.

"Certainly post Big Bash period we are looking forward to getting home and playing four games in our familiar conditions and hopefully we can get our season rolling."

With the Big Bash League getting underway in under a month's time on December 10, the players' focus now shifts to white-ball cricket before the Shield restarts in February with Vaughan hopeful of some games in Tasmania.

He believes two wins in any conditions can get the Tigers back up the ladder following two draws and losses in Adelaide.

Leading the way with the bat for the Tigers in the Shield hub was Ben McDermott, who scored 355 runs - including two 90s - at an average of 59.16.

"We had some good individual performances. Probably the big thing we spoke about last night was the lack of a big 100 maker.

"We had three centuries made in Adelaide, we had some players face a fair tally of balls but we didn't have someone make a 150-plus score, a 170.

"We saw the Victorian team have multiple guys make double hundreds and that certainly was part of the reason we weren't able to have the ultimate success here.

"It's something that we need to be better at in these types of conditions, when there are 600-plus runs required for the game, we need a batter to go on and make those big 150-170 scores that we are seeing other players do to us."

On the bowling side of things, Jackson Bird's 15 wickets was enough to see him selected in an Australia A squad to take on India in two three-day matches in December.

He was well supported by Peter Siddle and Nathan Ellis who both claimed 12 wickets, with the latter rested from the final game against his birth state.

"I couldn't ask for more from the bowlers in regards to their efforts, really tough conditions for fast bowling ... our bowling group toiled really well in those conditions throughout."

Vaughan's group left South Australia on Thursday.
