Stripped of virtually all its major sporting events in 2020 as coronavirus wreaked havoc around the country, Tasmania will dip its foot back into the water with a string of BBL matches between December 10 and 20.
Gutwein said he was happy to see Tasmania unveiled as one of four states to host the first block of fixtures.

"I've made decisions right throughout this that I wouldn't put Tasmanians' health at risk," Gutwein said.
"There were many that complained in terms of the position that we took with the AFL throughout the season - it was the right decision at the time based on the risk of COVID here in Tasmania and also the broader risk that COVID was presenting around the country.
"But now as Tasmania remains in a very safe place, the rest of the country is starting to right itself [and] we're in a position where with an appropriate COVID safety plan we can allow this tournament to go ahead."
The state government will contribute $260,000 towards the cost of this year's fixtures - slightly up on the usual $200,000 figure - with Gutwein predicting a "local economic stimulus" as a result of the eight matches.
"What we'll see is Tasmanians moving around the state and spending locally in restaurants, pubs and cafes ... it will be a shot in the arm that the Tasmanian economy needs."
